David Hurwitz is a Carmel Valley researcher, citizen journalist and analytic modeler. His primary focus is on the sources and mechanisms of American greatness. He publishes his inquiries, models and analyses at the Burkean Nation website, located at bNation.us, where he writes under the pen name David Burkean. “Burkean” is an homage to Edmund Burke. The Father of Conservatism inspired the Burkean Touchstones to which David ascribes America’s nonpareil success. Building on those four Touchstones, Hurwitz developed the Burkean Gridiron to visualize and predict public policy results, and Burkean Economics, a new form of behavioral economics that underlays the Burkean Gridiron and overall Burkean Analysis.
Long based in Silicon Valley, David led marketing at venture-backed startups, publicly traded companies and private-equity-owned companies. His breakthrough marketing at NASDAQ-traded Niku pioneered the IT Governance market, leading to market dominance for the Clarity system and outstanding financial results for Niku. David also served as SVP Worldwide Marketing for Serena Software and as Chief Marketing Officer for several enterprise software startups.
He holds an Industrial Engineering degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology, and began his long Silicon Valley career as a software engineer. Nature is David’s muse. Hence, he is often found up in the Santa Lucia Mountains or on the beaches of Monterey County. There he spends hours hiking Big Sur, Pinnacles National Park and other wonderlands, and running his Labrador Retriever on Carmel, Garrapata, Salinas River and Del Monte Beaches.
