September 30th CASI Youth Mentoring Event

At the September 30th CASI Youth Mentoring Event, you’ll have the unique opportunity to learn from and interact with noted graphic and digital artist Katie Bruzzone. She will present an overview of her notable career path and share tips on creative and efficient note-taking as well as life coaching advice. This is an exceptional chance for young people to gain insights on more effective methods of taking notes from classes, podcasts, or other presentations. Katie will be the keynote speaker, and then we will break out into art mentoring and science/economics writing mentoring sessions. This day will also be available for pickup of artworks displayed at Sunset Center.

The September 30th free event will take place at the Community Shared Spaces in the Carmel Barnyard. The event is open to the public and will take place between 3:30 pm and 5:15 pm. It is geared toward interested middle schoolers, high schoolers, and college students, with the adult public also welcome to attend. After the keynote presentation, there will be time to meet our featured speaker and a Q&A session. Subsequent to the keynote presentation, California Arts and Sciences Institute mentors in science and economics will be present to discuss the 2024/2025 CASI Student Writing Contest.

Art Mentoring: Students interested in next year’s CASI Student Art Contest can ask questions about the 2024/2025 new contest. The CASI Student Art Project Manager, Katie Bruzzone, and noted Carmel artist Jennifer Perlmutter will oversee the art mentoring.

Science, Forensics, Economics and Art History Mentoring: An update will be given to middle school, high school and college students, who are interested in writing an original paper in science, economics, or art history. CASI mentors are national experts in their scientific and economic fields; these mentors will discuss a range of topics of potential exploration, including: flora and fauna of the Central Coast; criminology; forensic research, biotech research; atmospheric science; marine science; energy generation alternatives (geothermal, nuclear, wind, natural gas, solar, hydroelectric); capital investment strategies (equities, bonds, real estate, precious metals); energy policy; cryptocurrency; housing economics. Mentors of this writing contest will include nationally known economists Dr. Francois Melese, Dr. David Henderson and nationally noted physicist Dr. Michael Hogan.

This day is open for attendance to all the youth of the Central Coast. There is no cost for this event and registration is not essential.
